FabLab Húsavík

Great Lab Húsavík opened at Hafnarstétt 1 at the end of 2021. The workshop is part of a collaborative network of accredited Great Lab workshop around the world and equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and computers that enhance skills to encourage user innovation and create a more competitive society. Fabrication Laboratory Húsavík is open to the public, businesses, entrepreneurs and to students every weekday according to the published timetable. 

The aim of FabLab Húsavík is: 

  • To create a platform for innovation and entrepreneurship in the business life of the Húsavík area. 
  • To enhance the competitiveness of businesses, students and educational institutions in the local community. 
  • To support the activities of an entrepreneurship centre and knowledge cluster in Húsavík 

 

About Fablab Húsavík

Fab Lab Húsavík is run by Hraðinn, the Centre for Innovation, and is located on Stéttin.  

Training and education in Fab Lab workshops aims to prepare users for the jobs of the future. In the wake of significant technological changes and automation in recent years Revolutions have taken place widely in society. These advances in technology have been attributed to the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and governments around the world are now competing to enhance people's education and skills in this field to increase value creation in society. 

In Iceland, the proportion of people educated in the sciences, The proportion of people educated in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM subjects) is considerably lower in Iceland than in other European countries, and the Icelandic government's focus is therefore on enhancing people's skills in these areas to meet this trend. FabLab workshops are an important tool for educational institutions to enhance skills in these fields, and Fab Lab Húsavík works in close collaboration with all school levels in the area and is a partner of the STEM education network. Húsavík. 

Open days

We are holding open days at the FabLab, where everyone is welcome to come and get to know our facilities and the equipment we have to offer.

Á Wednesdays 3–5 pm There are open days for beginners. There you can get an introduction to the equipment and help with taking the first steps in design and production.

Á Mondays 3–5 pm are open days for more advanced riders, those who have attended courses or are already quite self-sufficient, but want access to the facilities and support from our top men, Stefán and Flex.
